Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about hybrid batteries, grid chargers, and our services.

General Questions

What is a grid charger and how does it work?

A grid charger is a device that charges your hybrid battery directly from a standard wall outlet (grid power), bypassing your car's internal charging system. It allows controlled charging and discharging of the battery pack, which helps balance the cells and restore lost capacity. Unlike your car's factory system—which only uses 20-80% of battery capacity to prolong life—a grid charger brings cells to full charge, eliminating "memory effect" and restoring performance.

How do I know if my hybrid battery needs repair or replacement?

Common signs include: red triangle warning light on the dashboard, decreased fuel economy, reduced power/acceleration, the car not starting, or the battery fan running constantly. Before assuming you need a $3,000+ replacement, many of these issues can be resolved with cell replacement, reconditioning, or grid charging. We offer diagnostic services to determine the exact problem.

Can I really save money repairing vs. replacing my battery?

Absolutely! Dealer battery replacement typically costs $3,000-$5,000. Our repair and reconditioning services start at $300-$750, and a complete rebuild with new Li-Ion modules starts at $2,100. That's 50-70% savings compared to dealer replacement. Plus, our repairs often perform better than factory batteries because we balance the cells properly.

Do you offer a warranty on your work?

Yes! We stand behind our work with comprehensive warranties: Bring-Your-Own Pack Service (charging/rebalancing) comes with a 3-month warranty. Pack Reconditioning (cell replacement) includes a 6-month warranty. Complete Battery Rebuilds with new Li-Ion modules include a 2-year warranty. We believe in our workmanship and want you to drive with confidence.

Grid Charger Questions

What's the difference between a Grid Charger and a High Speed Charger?

Grid Chargers ($275) are designed for overnight charging—perfect for individual car owners who want to maintain their battery at home. They charge at a slower, gentler rate that's ideal for regular maintenance.

High Speed Chargers ($600) are industrial-grade units designed for repair shops and professionals who need fast turnaround times. They charge significantly faster and can handle multiple vehicles per day.

Both include a customized wire harness for your specific vehicle and work with the same hybrid battery systems.

Do I need a discharger too?

A discharger ($125) is recommended for complete battery reconditioning. While a grid charger brings your battery up to full charge, a discharger safely brings it down. This full charge/discharge cycle is what truly balances the cells and restores capacity. Many customers start with just a grid charger and add a discharger later. We offer bundle pricing when you purchase both together.

Is it safe to use a grid charger? Can I damage my battery?

Our chargers are designed with safety in view. We achieve this by building chargers to suit your vehicle voltage requirements, so that the upper voltage is safe and does not damage the battery even if you leave it On for a longer period. Moreover, the charging current is so low that the chargers neither over charge or over heat the battery pack. That is why in our instructions we don't even recommend keeping the battery fan ON while charging. We have been in business for over 15 years serving customers with grid chargers and never had a single complaint from a customer. Yes they are safe. Our HSC chargers come with a timer relay where you can set the timer and the charger will go OFF automatically at the given time, thus ensuring safety.

How long does charging take?

Grid Chargers typically take 5-6 hours for a complete charge, depending upon your battery condition and state of modules. High Speed Chargers can complete a charge cycle in 2-4 hours. A full reconditioning cycle (charge + discharge + charge) takes 4-5 hours if using HSC and 6-8 hours if using Grid Chargers.

Will a grid charger work with my vehicle?

We have grid chargers and adapters for most hybrid vehicles including: Toyota (Prius, Camry, Highlander, Avalon, RAV4), Honda (Insight, Civic, Accord, CR-Z), Ford (Escape, Fusion), Lexus (CT, ES, RX series), Nissan, Chevrolet, and more. Each charger comes with a wire harness customized for your specific vehicle model. Contact us if you don't see your vehicle listed.

Battery Repair Questions

What's involved in "Pack Reconditioning"?

Pack Reconditioning is our most popular service ($750). Here's what we do: (1) Remove the battery pack from your vehicle, (2) Clean all bus bars and inspect connections, (3) Test every individual cell for capacity, leaks, and damage, (4) Replace only the bad cells with matched replacements, (5) Rebalance all cells to identical voltage levels, (6) Load test the entire pack, (7) Reinstall in your vehicle. It's like getting a new battery for a fraction of the cost.

What's the difference between Pack Reconditioning and a Complete Rebuild?

Pack Reconditioning ($750) replaces only the failed cells and rebalances the pack. It's perfect for batteries with some bad cells but most still in good condition.

Complete Rebuild ($2,100+) installs all new Li-Ion modules (not just cells)—essentially a brand new battery. This is ideal for very old batteries or when you want the longest possible life. Currently available for Toyota models only.

Can I remove the battery myself and bring it to you?

Yes! Our "Bring-Your-Own Pack Service" ($300) is designed for DIY enthusiasts. If you're comfortable removing your battery pack (or have a mechanic who can), you can bring it to us for charging and rebalancing. This saves you money and is perfect if you already have the pack out for other repairs. We'll diagnose, charge, balance, and test it—then you reinstall it.

How long does a repaired battery last?

It depends upon your usage and care but generally a re-conditioned pack can last for 1-2 years and a rebuild pack can last 3-5 years. The key is regular maintenance—just like changing your oil keeps your engine healthy, periodic grid charging keeps your hybrid battery balanced.

Why can't you rebuild Honda batteries with new modules?

We used to import new Honda battery sticks from China, but due to tariffs and lack of warranty support from overseas suppliers, we discontinued this service. For Honda vehicles, we offer Pack Reconditioning (replacing individual bad cells) which still provides excellent results and significant savings over dealer replacement. We continue to look for reliable domestic sources for Honda modules.
